Hi everyone, this is my very first blog post and today I want to talk about mental health and some apps that will help anyone who is struggling with either stress, anxiety, self-esteem issues, or loss of a love one. Mental health refers to our cognitive, emotional, and behavioral well being. It isn’t always about the absence of mental disorders but the way we think, feel, and behave.
Mental health is especially important if you are a full-time student working a part- time, or full time job and doing other extracurricular activities. Our emotional, social and psychological well being are sometimes harmed by the stress and anxiety we get each and every day. Last year, I graduated high school and enrolled as a full time student in college (YAY). I thought mental health was for people who had mental disorders. I took four classes that semester and I was so shocked. The workload of those classes were incomparable to the work I had in high school. On top of that I had to work, join organizations, and i was in a relationship.
I stayed up all night and had to get up super early to either get to class or go to work. Usually after work I would go straight to class and then go to study sessions ( because biology wasn’t something to joke about).
You get it. I was tired and busy, and I could not get a break.
If I knew of some of these apps, I think I would be in a better place than I was a few months ago. So here are some apps that are apple and android friendly for college students, or any one with a super busy schedule and need time to relax and reload.
This app has steps you can complete to get out of your comfort zone and to appreciate yourself more. Some of these steps require you to step out of your comfort zone.Steps is perfect for people who are shy and want to be more outgoing.
2. Mend
This is a great app if you just went through a break up and you don’t have any time to heal yourself because of your busy schedule. Guys I have been there and staying busy does not help at all. Every day you check in, listen to an audio training, and then journal about it. There is also some awesome articles about what you are dealing with. Some of the training require subscription too.
3. Wisdo
Wisdo is a people friendly app that makes you interact with people who are dealing with the same struggles you are dealing with. Which could be coping with loss, coping with bullying, depression, loneliness, and borderline personality. This is an awesome app because it helps the person know they are not alone and it’s also great to have someone you can talk to and ask for advice. I have been using it and it is so reassuring to know that I am not the only one dealing with a problem or a self esteem issue.
This app is for stress and anxiety when you first sign in it asks about your favorite scene and what are your goals. Those goals may include feeling happier, thinking positively, finding hope or building confidence. There Pacific will check up on you and give you some meditations that are related to how you feel during that day.
5. Calm
This app is for iphones and androids. As you start this app, it gives a list of goals you want to achieve. This is one of my favorite apps so far. When you open this app, you’re greet with this waterfall sound that immediately calms you. In Calm, there is a breathing exercise, sleep story and scene category. This is awesome for people who are stressed or have a hard time sleeping at night. The sound effects always make me de-stress.
This app is for meditation, and has meditations for being more focus, less stressful, and sleeping better. This is a great app if you want to release any kind of stress. There is also a subscription if you want a more intense meditation but it is not free.
Hope you guys like them!
Awesome that mental health is being discussed by the younger generation. As a military Veteran I have been in a battle for over 30 years and still optimistic about getting better. Thank you for your post.
